r a d i o q u a l i a are now undertaking a residency at the makrolab from 15 - 28 July 2002, carrying out research on two projects.

Van Eck TV
A project which builds on the use of Van Eck surveillance techniques. Van Eck phreaking enables data to be collected from computer monitors, and other electrical equipment using electromagnetic emmissions. Van Eck techniques show that computer data is more vulnerable than people expect. Surveillers can utilise receivers and remote devices to position themselves at a distance from the computer being surveilled, allowing data to be observed and replicated without needing to access a computer's hard drive.

radio.astronomy
A plan to create an online radio station at the Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Center (VIRAC) in Latvia. At makrolab we will create a communication link with collaborators in Riga and Irbene in Latvia; research methods of collecting aural data from planetary and solar radiation; and explore ways that aural data collected at the VIRAC can be presented and contextualised online. This project builds on initial research undertakn at the Acoustic Space Lab, in August 2001, and is part of the ongoing Acoustic Space Research Lab.
