frequency clock - gallery installation

in its gallery installation form, the frequency clock brings together net.radio projects located in separate geographical locations + relays their transmissions into the gallery, onto the web + onto the airwaves.

the frequency clock creates aural portals into the creative spaces of the contributors. it recontextualises net.radio within an inventive exhibition environment + allows gallery audiences to explore net.radio spatially.

radio + net.radio overlap, the functions of both dissolve into each other.

the installation consists of a series of computers connected to the internet. each computer is also connected to a mini-FM radio transmitter. a web-interface displays a series of net.radio stations. when a visitor connects to a net.radio station, it streams live via the internet. the audio is rebroadcast into the gallery space, via the mini-FM transmitters. visitors can tune in + out of internet radio stations, by moving within the gallery wearing an FM radio headset. physical movement literally tunes the frequency clock radio machine. like the vital role a crystal plays in tuning the traditional radio into different radio stations, the audience participant in the frequency clock installation, moving through localised radiospace, tunes the frequency clock into different net.radio stations from around the world.

the frequency clock installation has been displayed on 4 occasions:
