PARTICIPANTS

Closing the Loop 2000 is created by two key groups:

Time's Up

A group of artists, mathematicians, pseudoscientists, smiths and smitherines... a constant flow of varying interests, based at a laboratory in the harbor of Linz - Austria. Time's Up was founded by Tim Boykett and Just Merritt for the main purpose of giving a forum to express certain ideas. The public person in their everyday situation is the focus of interest for Time's Up, and in particular the way behaviour in public spaces is dominated by the three factors of biomechanics, perception and control. Time's Up acts in collusion with international specialists (biomechanics, researchers, artists, scientists, etc.) to create situations in which the standardised methods of action fail to have their standardised results; as a result the parameters of everyday life become more apparent and researchable.

r a d i o q u a l i a

An online sound collaboration between Honor Harger (NZ/somehere) and Adam Hyde (NZ/Netherlands). Informed by the discourses surrounding science, art and philosophy, r a d i o q u a l i a critiques the frailties of our chosen media format (Real Audio / Video, Desktop Computers, Internet connections) within the aesthetic of sound art and broadcasting. r a d i o q u a l i a celebrates collision of intent and error, working with, rather than against the limitations of the media. Exploring the pragmatics of online and on-airbroadcasting, software and technical tools, live performance, audio experimentation and critical theory are key goals.
